[ARCHIVED] WMCC Swimming Pool to Close on Monday, May 19

WEIRTON — The swimming pool at the Weirton Millsop Community Center will close on Monday, May 19 and will remain closed until the remaining work on Phase III of the WMCC South Wall Stabilization Project is complete.

As previously stated, this closure is necessary as work on the interior wall and ceiling will make use of the pool area impossible.

"We regret the closure of the pool because we know how much it means to so many people, but it's an unavoidable and necessary step in the completion of this project," Park Board Director Coty Shingle said. "This project has been ongoing for almost three years now and we've avoided closure of the pool until this last leg of the work so we're hoping our patrons appreciate and understand that this temporary inconvenience is necessary to achieve a permanent benefit."

Park Board staff will take appropriate actions to extend memberships for patrons of WMCC whose primary use of the facility is the pool. Patrons are also encouraged to make use of Starvaggi Memorial Pool while the WMCC pool is closed.

There is no need for members to check daily pool status at WMCC as Park Board staff will publicly announce the reopening of the WMCC pool.

Patrons can also check the WMCC Facebook page and the official Park Board website for construction updates.
