In 1968, the federal Fair Housing Act was passed to prohibit discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, sex, familial status, and/or disability. April
has been recognized nationally since the Act’s passage as a month to educate and raise awareness on the importance of fair housing practices.
Mayor Dean M. Harris recognizing the importance of fair housing presented a proclamation to the City of Weirton's Human Rights Commission at the April Council Meeting for being advocates for fair housing practices. Thank you, City of Weirton Human Rights Commission members Kyle Wilson, Nora Coleman, Christina Johnson, and Tanya Parker, for advocating to keep housing fair for all!
