[ARCHIVED] Lifeguarding Courses Being Offered at WMCC

WEIRTON – Lifeguard classes will be offered at the Weirton Millsop Community Center (WMCC) May 19, 20 and 21 and
May 26, 27 and 28.
Class sessions start at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, with the  start time to be determined for Saturday sessions.
All prospective lifeguards must pass a prerequisite swim test, swimming 500 yards continuously, untimed, while displaying multiple swimming strokes and rhythmic breathing techniques.
Swimming is not taught as part of the lifeguarding course. Lifeguard courses are designed for competent swimmers.
These are the only lifeguarding classes being offered by the Weirton Board of Parks this year.
Class sizes are limited, so students will be accepted on a first come first served basis.
The cost of the course is $250, half of which must be paid prior to the start of the class. The remainder of the fee must be paid before a lifeguard license can be issued.
Recertifications course will be conducted during portions of the lifeguard training. The recertification fee is $125.
All female students must wear a one-piece swimsuit for in-water training.
To register, or receive more information, call the customer service desk at WMCC at (304) 797-8520.
