In 1962,President John F. Kennedy, by proclamation, designated May 15, as National Peace Officers Memorial Day to honor those in federal, state and local law enforcement killed or disabled in the line of duty, and the calendar week in which National Peace Officers Memorial Day falls as National Police Week to honor America’s law enforcement community.
On Wednesday, May 13, 2020, a ceremony took place in front of the Weirton Municipal Building in observation of National Peace Officers Memorial Day and National Police Week.
The City of Weirton salutes those in law enforcement who risk their lives to protect and serve our nation, state, and local communities, and remembers those in law enforcement who lost their lives protecting us.
