[ARCHIVED] Panhandle Trail Provides Volunteer Opportunties

The Northern Panhandle Rail Trail, operated by the Weirton Board of Park & Recreation Commissioners in partnership with the city of Weirton and the Weirton Rail Trail Committee, offers a wealth of volunteer opportunties for those who love the great outdoors and want to make a difference by serving their community.

The Rail Trail Committee has the overwhelming task of routine maintenance of the trail and is always looking for volunteers to assist that effort. The Rail Trail volunteers meet at the trail every Thursday evening through the summer and early fall to provide a number of services, including mowing grass, trimming trees, trimming weeds, making minor trail repairs and maintaining rest areas along the trail.

Not only are volunteers welcome, but high school and college students looking to fulfill community service obligations could also find a way to give back through the Rail Trail Committee.

Partnership opportunites through community organizations are also very helpful to the Park Board's mission to provide quality recreation opportunites.

For more information on how you can volunteer at the Panhandle Trail, call Park Board Operations/Maintenance Director Coty Shingle at (304) 797-5719, or email mccoperations@comcast.net.
