[ARCHIVED] Lifeguard Course Starting Friday at WMCC

There will be a lifeguarding class held at the Weirton Millsop Community Center (WMCC) beginning on Friday, March 23 at 5 p.m.

The class fee is $250.00 per student. Half of the fee ($125.00) must be paid at the time of registration and the other half must be paid before the student can take part in the final written exam. Lifeguards looking to re-certify will be charged $125.00, all of which must be paid up front.

The class will be completed no later than Saturday, March 31. The remaining sessions of the class will be scheduled by the instructor when the class first meets on Friday.

Friday’s session will start with a prerequisite 500-yard swim. Prospective guards must continuously swim 500 yards, displaying competent swimming technique, including rhythmic breathing. Swim instruction is not offered as part of the lifeguard course. The lifeguard course is designed for above average swimmers.

All female participants must wear a one-piece swim suit for all water activities. There can be no exception to this rule.

All students should report on Friday with swim gear and a change of clothes. Following the swim test, there will be video training.

To register for this lifeguard class, call the WMCC customer service desk at (304) 797-8520. Class space is limited, so spots in the class will be limited to the first 10 students who register and pay.
