Since 1983, April has been observed nationally as Child Abuse Prevention Month to inspire communities and organizations to come together for the prevention of child
abuse and neglect and to educate the public about signs of child abuse.
The City of Weirton and the Weirton Board of Parks joined the efforts of Brooke Hancock Family Resource Network, A Child’s Place, CASA, and Change, Inc. Comfort House on April 9, 2025 to promote awareness of child abuse prevention by adding blue pinwheels, the national symbol for child abuse prevention, to the Weirton Municipal Building and Millsop Community Center. After the pinwheeling, Councilwoman Brittany Holloway presented Certificates of Appreciation to the three organizations on behalf of the City for all they do to protect and advocate for abused and neglected children in our community.
