In Weirton, the North End tree at the intersection of Main Street & Pennsylvania Avenue symbolized the beginning of the holidays back in the day …For a while this did not happen. When Mayor Miller came into office in 2015, he decided to bring the holiday spirit back to Weirton by holding an annual North End tree lighting ceremony to honor the old tradition.
Each year, the celebration thrived and by 2020, the crowd outgrew the North End so Christmas on Main Street was born. This event, led by Mayor Miller, attracts thousands of people to Weirton to kick off the holiday season.
As a thank you to Mayor and Council, the Park Board, and major sponsors of the Christmas on Main Street event, a small tree lighting ceremony at the North End was held on Wednesday, November 13th  to kick off the Christmas season in Weirton and to keep the North End shining bright throughout the holidays.
Thank you, Weirton City Council, and all the major sponsors of Christmas on Main Street, for your support to make this event free to Weirton and surrounding communities.
A special thank you to Mayor Miller for bringing the tree lighting ceremony tradition back to Weirton. Thanks to you, many more years of memories have been created!
