IMG_4109

On April 22, 2024, Earth Day will be celebrated globally by billions of people across 192 countries to appreciate the beauty of our earth and raise awareness on the importance of environmental conservation.
In celebration of Earth Day, The City of Weirton and the Weirton Board of Parks joined forces with the Mon Power/FirstEnergy Green Team to do a tree planting and a tree giveaway in the City. On Friday, April 19, over 200 trees/shrubs were planted at the Marland Heights Park, Bennett Drive Playground, and Oakland Avenue Field. Then on Saturday, April 20, citizens lined up at Marland Heights Park for a giveaway of over 100 trees/shrubs. The overwhelming turnout of people for the giveaway was astounding.
Thank you, Mon Power/ First Energy Green Team, for volunteering your time and providing the trees and shrubs and to all the City of Weirton and Weirton Board of Parks employees who assisted in both the planting and giveaway. Also, a shout to the many citizens who withstood the cold to join us at the giveaway. Together we honored our Earth!
