Daniel L. McCune was born and raised in Weirton, West Virginia, and is the youngest of seven (7)boys. He graduated from Weirton Madonna High School and attended one post-graduate year at the United States Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport, Rhode Island. Mr. McCune attended West Virginia University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1985. He attended the West Virginia University College of Law from 1986-1989 where he was President of the Marlyn Lugar Trial Association, winner of the Lugar Cup, and was awarded the Order of the Barristers for Excellence in Trial Advocacy. He was also a member of the College of Law's National Moot Court (Appellate Advocacy) competition squad and Baker Cup Appellate Advocacy competition participant.
Mr. McCune has been an Officer on the Board of Directors at the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop (Weirton's opportunity center for individuals with special needs) for over twenty-five (25)years where he serves as Legal Advisor. He is on the Board of Directors at Weirton Health Care, The Louis Serra Charitable Foundation, The James F. McCune Charitable Foundation, the Community Foundation of the Ohio Valley (CFOV), and Chestnut Manor (an independent living facility for physically handicapped individuals). Mr. McCune coached basketball for many years at Weirton St. Joseph Grade School, Weirton Madonna High School (Freshmen) and Weirton Termites Association. Mr. McCune was an inductee into Weirton Madonna High School's Inaugural Hall of Fame Class in 2012 and has been active in tuition assistance efforts over the years for Madonna High School and Weirton area parochial schools.
