[ARCHIVED] Starvaggi Pool opening at 4 p.m. today

WEIRTON -- Starvaggi Memorial Swimming Pool will open today at 4 p.m. following repairs to the main filtration system.

The pool has been closed since Monday due to mechanical failures that were linked to filter room flooding back on June 10.

"We're excited to be back open and looking forward to enjoying the rest of the pool season," Park Board Executive Director Coty Shingle said. "It's been a bit of a struggle, especially the last month or so. We have continued to work hard and by and large the public has been very supportive of our efforts. We realize we're all going  through this together."

Beginning at 4 p.m. today, the Park Board will resume all regular activities at Starvaggi Pool.

Any special programs, pool parties and pool rentals will take place as planned for the remainder of the season.

Those who have questions regarding Starvaggi Pool can call the Park Board's main offices at (304) 797-8520, or call the pool directly at (304) 723-1040 during open hours. Information can also be obtained on the Starvaggi Pool page on the city of Weirton website.

Since the pool will only be open from 4 to 8 p.m. today, day pass entry will only be $2.00 a person.

Starvaggi Pool's regular hours are 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Day pass rates are $4.00 per swimmer. The Park Board also partners with Weirton Transit on a combination pass for the pool and a ride to and from for just $4.00 a person between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Pool availability is always dependent on good weather. In the event storms are in the area, always call ahead to check on pool availability.
