Meetings

Meetings normally last up to one hour, and require an occasional work session which can last up to two hours. Members are occasionally expected to attend community meetings and joint meetings with City Council.

All meetings of the Board shall be open to the public and will adhere to the Open Meetings Law and Public Records Law. More information on this Board can be found in its annual report.

Members

The Weirton Sanitary Board consists of the following members:
  • The Mayor of the City of Weirton who serves as Chairman of the Board
  • Two citizen members serving from the City of Weirton, one of whom shall be a registered professional engineer
  • The Sanitary Board Director
Members shall be appointed for terms of three years. The terms of the governing and administrative members shall be co-extensive with the term of office of which they have been elected or appointed.

Responsibilities

The City of Weirton Sanitary Board is responsible for managing and operating the sewage system of the greater Weirton, West Virginia area. The Weirton sewer system consists of various underground pipes and pumps which remove sewage from local homes, businesses, and industries of the Weirton area. The sewage is collected at the wastewater plant for treatment and disposal into the Ohio River.
