Leash Law

One way to prevent your animal from biting a person or another animal is to obey the leash law. The City of Weirton requires that all dogs and cats be on a leash or lead if they are not on the owner's property. The leash law also protects animals from injury.

505.02  DOGS AND CATS RUNNING-AT-LARGE
  No owner or any person in charge of any dog or cat, whether or not such dog or cat has attached to it a license tag or whether or not it has been vaccinated, shall cause or permit such dog or cat to run or be upon a street, sidewalk or public place within the city or upon any property other than property owned by or under the control of such person who is the owner of or has control of such dog or cat unless such dog or cat is accompanied by its owner or some other person in charge of such dog or cat.
