The Giving Tree

Giving Tree

The Gate 5 Committee is tirelessly working to raise funding for the second annual Heritage Gate 5 festival through the City of Weirton’s very own Giving Tree. The festival was created as a heritage event, reflecting on the industrial culture of Weirton and surrounding communities. The Sculpture, skillfully crafted in aluminum by the talented Jeff Forster, “represents growth and life from the hills, valleys and rivers, and how their foundation grew into this beautiful tree.”  The Giving tree provides opportunity for the community to come together to honor family members, notable citizens, businesses, and community partners through lovely leaves, apples, birds, and cornerstones.  Through art, the tree shows where we began, as a steel town foundation, and through redevelopment and beautification, where we are going in the future. In designing the Sculpture, Mr. Forster incorporated strength of the community through strong bold scrolls, and then softened the scrolls by adding the spirals. Once complete, the Giving tree will be transported to different locations throughout the city for people to enjoy and view their donation, before it is placed in its permanent home.  Donations to the City of Weirton’s Giving Tree can be made to the Renaissance Weirton Corporation, 200 municipal Plaza Weirton WV 26062.
