Reflections on 2018: The Comprehensive Plan

Each community has a set of values and a recognized culture that contributes to the quality of life for its citizens. A Comprehensive Plan helps the City accomplish these as efficiently and sustainably as possible.

It serves as a guide for physical development within the City, including land use, setting forth the guidelines, goals, and objectives for all activities that influence growth and development within the city’s jurisdiction.

The Plan takes into account the City’s changes and recent growth trends to successfully understand Weirton’s current and future needs.

According to the West Virginia State Code, the City of Weirton must periodically regulate land use within city boundaries and be updated.

Mackin Engineering out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, was chosen to work with the Planning Commission and the Planning and Development Department at the City to develop and implement this plan.

A Comprehensive Planning process began in January 2017, went through several public hearings for public input, and went into effect as of November 2018.

The Comprehensive Plan will be followed, reviewed, and updated to continue moving Weirton positively into the future.
