Reflections on 2018: The REDS Summit

On October 29-30, the City of Weirton hosted the U.S. Economic Development Administration’s Regional Economic Diversification Summit (REDS) which brought together local, state, and federal agencies to discuss a new vision for Weirton’s future.

The City took participants through key sites around the city, including Three Springs Drive Business Park, North Main Street/Downtown Weirton, and the Frontier Group redevelopment area/Former Weirton Steel site.

To go over how to advance projects and what type of funding is available for future development, a round table day moderated by Pat Ford, Executive Director of the Business Development Corporation of the Northern Panhandle, was held at Williams Country Club.

An EDA REDS event convenes federal, state, regional, local, private sector, and community partners to build relationships among federal agencies, advance existing plans, demonstrate environmental cleanup, infrastructure, economic diversification, transportation needs, and to optimize resources to better support further developments.

These connections remain vital to the ongoing developments of plans that were established at the summit.
